Policy Fellowship

How can we use policy to create meaningful change in our schools? The Consent Futures Policy Fellowship is a five-month, nonpartisan virtual series for Ontario high school student leaders ready to sharpen their advocacy, research, and policy writing skills. This fellowship will connect you with experts from policy, political staff, campaigners, and advocates who'll show you how change really happens during one-hour workshops.

To grow consent in our schools and communities, policy plays a critical system change role.

What to Expect From the Fellowship

  • These two foundational workshops are required to participate in the fellowship. Because meaningful change starts with understanding what’s already on paper.

    • The Breakdown: Led by Kim Stanton, learn how to read, analyze, and respond to the policies that shape your school and community.

    • Deep Dive: It's your turn now. Create your own policy review and workshop it with fellow student leaders.

  • From grassroots organizing to digital strategy, learn how campaigns build momentum and win. Facilitated by Progress Toronto.

    • Part one: Story as Strategy  Your story is one of your most powerful advocacy tools. Learn how to weave your personal experience with proven messaging techniques to create a narrative that moves people to action.

    • Part two: Making Yourself Heard From school board meetings to conversations with policymakers and media, learn how to deliver your message with clarity and confidence—wherever decisions are being made.

    • Sexual Harassment in the Workplace Part of being a leader is knowing your rights—and helping others know theirs. In honour of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, learn how to recognize, respond to, and advocate against harassment in the workplace—be it a part-time job, a co-op, or an internship.

    • So, You Want to Be a Political Staffer? A nonpartisan panel with political staff from across the spectrum shares what it's really like to work behind the scenes in politics—and how students can get there.

  • Learn how to craft and communicate your personal brand as a student leader and changemaker.
