Parents and Caregivers
We are so glad you are here. We know that as a parent, caregiver or guardian to an Ontario high school student you want the best for them. That can look like ensuring their right to learn and grow in inclusive schools that are free from harm or being in a dating relationship that is safe and joyful. You play a powerful role in making this possible. Explore our offerings below to learn how you can make a meaningful impact on students' well-being and safety.
What you can do
Three things you can do right now
Here are steps you can take right now to help grow futures of consent for your teen and their peers:
-
We know that when families lead the charge on consent education, it has a profound impact on shaping students' behaviours and attitudes. To learn more about having these conversations, check out our Consent 101 resource page.
-
If your child has is subjected to sexual harassment and sexual assault, it’s not their fault. When asked, youth who have been impacted by sexual violence said that they wished their parents would “give them space” and “take it slow,” This means it’s crucial to let the young person lead the way in how they want to be supported. We are working on a brand new guide for parents and caregivers on receiving a disclosure with care but in the meantime, you can learn how to give support.
